PARISIAN SUMMER

Wer meinem Blog schon länger folgt kennt meine Liebe für Paris und weiß auch, dass ich dort mein Auslandssemester verbracht habe.
Trotz meiner vielen Besuche in dieser wunderbaren Stadt, war ich doch vor allem in den Herbst- und Wintermonaten dort.

Glücklicherweise habe ich es letztes Jahr endlich geschafft, einmal im Sommer nach Paris zu fahren und dort einige Tage im August zu verbringen. Mein Fazit: ich möchte zu keiner anderen Jahreszeit mehr nach Paris!
Man ist fast alleine in der Stadt, da die meisten Pariser in den Sommermonaten ans Meer fliehen und sich auch nur wenige Touristen im August dorthin verirren, dadurch kann man Paris in vollen Zügen und ganz in Ruhe genießen!

Hier kommen also meine Tips für einen Pariser Sommer:

 

If you have been following my blog for the past two years, you know about my semester abroad in Paris and the big love for this city.
While I’ve been in Paris in almost every season, I’ve mostly spent my time there during fall and winter… 

Luckily I spent a week there last year in August and got to witness Paris in all its summer glory. My summary: from now on I never want to visit Paris at any other time of the year! You’re pretty much on your own in the city, given that there are few Parisians left since they all flee to the seaside during the summer months and almost no tourists as well, which makes it the perfect time to visit and make the most of the city.

Without further ado, here are my tips for a Parisian Summer:

Le Grand Train

Auf alten Eisenbahnschienen und in einem alten Banhof wurde letzte Jahr eine art „Pop-Up“ Area errichtet, die zum Entspannen bei Live Musik und Speiß und Trank perfekt war. Gelegen im 18. Arrondissement an der Métro Marcadet Poissoniers war Le Grand Train der ideale Ort um sich mit Freunden zu treffen und dem Großstadttrubel zu entkommen. Trotz des Erfolges des Grand Train, wurde es leider dieses Jahr nicht wieder eröffnet. Doch Pop-Up Locations wie diese tauchen über ganz Paris verstreut auf… 

Located at an old train station and over and between old train rails in the 18th arrondissement at the métro Marcadet Poissoniers, this pop-up area was the perfect spot to relax while listening to some live music, eating and drinking, meeting with friends and spending some time away from all the big city bustle.
Even though it was highly successful, the spot wasn’t reopened this summer. But in a big and vibrant city as Paris, another great pop-up location like this surely will be opened again… 

 

Promenade Plantée

Einer meiner absoluten Lieblingsorte in Paris ist und bleibt die Promenade Plantée, auch Coulée verte René-Dumont genannt. Dieser 4,5km lange „Wanderweg“ über die Dächer von Paris liegt zum Großteil im 12. Arrondissement. Er verläuft über dem Viaduc des Arts, 71 Arkaden aus rotem Ziegelstein, in dessen Inneren Kunstboutiquen zu finden sind. Abermals ist es eine frühere Eisenbahnstrecke, dessen Endpunkt der Gare de la Bastille war, wo sich heute die Opéra Bastille befindet.
Von dort aus empfehle ich auch anzufangen und dann einfach so lange man lustig ist weiter zu laufen. Man kann die Promenade jederzeit verlassen und zurück in die Häuserschluchten der Stadt kehren, oder dreht einfach wieder um und läuft zurück.
Auch ein Pique-Nique empfehlt sich dort, denn dank der Lage hat man auf der Promenade Plantée sehr viel Sonne und kann auf den vielen Bänken in Ruhe sein Corissant oder Sandwich genießen – so wie viele Pariser es tun.

On of my all-time favourites in Paris is the Promande Plantée – also known as Coulée vert René-Dumont. It’s a trail that takes you along the rooftops of Paris and most of its 4.5km lie in the 12th Arrondissement. The Promenade Plantée is above the Viaduc des Arts, 71 arcades made of red bricks that are home for art boutiques. Again this is an old railway which used to end in the Gare de la Bastille, where now the Opéra Bastille is located.
I suggest you start the Promenade at the Bastille and just walk along it as long as you like. Whenever you want to return down to Paris‘ magnificent house gorges you can, since there are a lot of exits along the way, or you simply turn around and walk back to the Bastille.
Take your lunch with you and have a typical pique-nique in the sun on one of the many benches there, like many Parisians do. 

 

 

Canal Saint Martin 

Am Place de la Bastille kann man noch einen weiteren Weg gehen, doch statt zu Fuß geht es dieses Mal auf ein Boot. Denn hier liegt der Porte de l’Arsenal der an den Schiffskanal Canal Saint Martin anknüpft. Eine Bootstour auf diesem Kanal ist eine absolute Empfehlung meinerseits, denn auf den 4,5km des Kanals kommt man durch das 10. und 11. Arrondissement und damit an so einigen Pariser Plätzen vorbei, die man sonst wahrscheinlich nicht kennenlernen würde.
Zu Beginn fährt man ein gutes Stück durch einen Tunnel unter der Stadt hindurch und kommt dann an fünf Schleusen und zwei Drehbrücken vorbei, die unter magischen Jugendstilbrücken und Baumkronen durchführen. Die Uferpromenade des Kanals ist besonders im Sommer ein bliebter Spazierort.
Endpunkt des Kanals ist das Bassin de la Villette, doch vorher dreht man noch eine extra Runde entlang des Parc de la Villette – dort kann man auch aussteigen. Anderweitig steigt man am Endpunkt aus, der direkt am Kino MK2 liegt und läuft von dort am Quai de la Loire entlang zur Métro Jaurès. Definitif empfehlenswert ist ein Blick über den Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad zu werfen. 

When at Bastille another great thing to do is to take a boat tour on the Canal Saint Martin. Right next to the Métro is the Porte de L’Arsenal that is connected to the channel Saint Martin. The 4.5km of the channel pass not only the 10th and 11th arrondissement but also many sights and places in Paris you probably wouldn’t visit otherwise.
The first third of the channel is inside a big tunnel that goes right under the city. After that, you pass five locks and two swing bridges that lie under magic metal Art Nouveau bridges and treetops. If you don’t take the boat tour at least take a stroll along the channel on the beautiful promenade, which is a popular place to be on a sunny Sunday…
The end of the tour is at the Bassin de la Villette, but before you’ll take an extra round in the Bassin to pass the Parc de la Villette, where you can also get off. Otherwise stay on until the end and walk along the Quai de la Loire to the nearest Métro station Jaurès. Definitely, take a peek – if not walk – at the Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad. 

 

Paris Plage

Wer noch etwas länger am Bassin de la Villette verweilen will, kann dies am sich dort befindenden Paris Plage tun. Hier ist einer der Orte an denen man den Stadtstrand von Paris genießen kann.
Noch schöner ist meiner Meinung nach allerdings der Paris Plage entlang des Radhausufers, also direkt beim Hôtel de Ville. Dort gibt es neben Essens- und Getränkeständen, auch Liegestühle und andere Sitzgelegenheiten um eben dies zu genießen. Ich habe es allerdings wie die meisten Franzosen gemacht und mein Essen selbst mitgebrahct und mir dort nur etwas zum trinken geholt.
Besonders schön ist der Paris Plage natürlich am Abend, wenn die Sonne untergeht. 

If you like to stay at the Bassin de la Villette even longer, you could do it by visiting Paris Plage there. It’s one of the locations of the city beaches of Paris.
I personally prefer the location directly next to the city hall bank, the Hôtel de Ville. You can get food and drinks there as well as relax in one of the many lounge chairs and enjoy the view. I brought my own food – as most Parisians do – and simply got a drink there but nevertheless, Paris Plage is a great place to be – especially in the evenings to watch the sunset. 

 

Parcs

Parks in Paris sind zu jeder Jahreszeit wunderschön, aber besonders im Sommer erkennt man ihre volle Bracht. Hier meine Favoriten:

Jardin du Luxembourg 

 

Jardin des Tuileries

Während der Sommermonate gibt es im Jardin des Tuileries eine Art Jahrmarkt die Fête des Tuileries, wo es neben Fahrgeschäften auch typische Süßwarenstände gibt.

During the summer months, there’s a fair in the Jardin des Tuileries called the Fête des Tuileries.

Parc des Buttes-Chaumont

 

Marais

Mein absolutes Lieblingsviertel in Paris: das Marais. Hier gibt es neben Sehenswürdigkeiten wie das Hôtel de Ville auch ettliche Shopping Möglichkeiten, beispielsweise das Kaufhaus BHV.
Aber vorallem zum flanieren ist das Marais dank seiner vielen kleinen und verwundenen Gässchen bestens geeignet.
Ob zum Frühstück, zum Apérol oder zum Abendessen – ein süßes Bistro oder Restaurant ist nie weit weg. 

My favourite quarter in Paris is the Marais. Apart from housing many sights, like the Hôtel de Ville it is also a great place to shop, for example in the department store BHV.
But mostly it’s the perfect place for a stroll and to just wander around since it has so many little rues and hidden passages.
Whether you want to have breakfast, an Apérol or even dinner, a nice Bistro or restaurant is never far away.

 

Seine

Ein Spaziergang entlang der Seine ist immer eine gute Idee und auch wirklich wunderschön. Ob man nun von Notre Dame aus auf die Île Saint Louis geht, oder von Pont Marie richtung Hôtel de Ville läuft…
Vor allem im Sommer sind dort nette Bistros oder gar Boot-Bars zu finden.
Wer sich traut, kann auch einen Fuß in die Seine halten 😉

Taking a walk along the Seine is always a good idea and very beautiful indeed. Whether you go from Notre Dame Cathedral to the Île Saint Louis or just stroll from Pont Marie back to the Hôtel de Ville…
You’ll most likely come across some nice looking bistros or boat bars and if you’re brave enough, you can even dip your toes into the Seine.
