WINTER TRIP – AMMERSEE – The Pure Look

Sonnige Sonntage im Winter sind ein wunderbarer Grund, einen kleinen Ausflug zu machen. In München hat man dafür unendlich viele Möglichkeiten. Ob in der Stadt selbst spazieren zu gehen, beispielsweise im Englischen Garten oder Schlosspark, zum Schlittschuhlaufen bzw Skifahren zu fahren, oder eine Winterwanderung…

Wer weniger Zeit hat oder lieber Low-Budget unterwegs ist, sollte einen sonnigen Sonntag dazu nutzen, zu einem der wunderbaren Seen zu fahren, die Rund um München liegen, wie beispieslweise zum Ammersee:

Sunny winter Sundays are great to go on a little trip. In Munich, there is a variety of great things you can do when it’s a cold but still sunny weekend. Whether you visit the city, go to a museum or take a stroll through one of Munich’s beautiful parks, like the English Garden or the Nymphenburg Park. But of course, you can also do more active things, like ice-skating or even driving out of the town to go skiing or on a winter hike.

If you have less time, no car, or just prefer to keep it low-budget, you should consider using the good weather and visit one of the many beautiful lakes around Munich, like the Lake Ammersee:

Der drittgrößte See Bayerns liegt wunderbar im Voralpenland und bietet dadurch die Aussicht auf Berge. Daneben ist der Ammersee vor allem für seine 1.5km lange Seepromenade bekannt, die sich an sonnigen Tagen wunderbar entlang flanieren lässt.

It’s the third biggest lake in Bavaria and lies right in the for hills of the beautiful Alps. The Lake Ammersee is also famous for its 1.5km long seaside promenade, where you can take a beautiful stroll on sunny days.

Besonders gut ist der Ammersee über Herrsching zu erreichen – direkt mit der S8, oder natürlich auch mit dem Auto. Von der Sbahn Station sind es nur 5 Minuten bis zur Seepromenade.

Getting to the Lake Ammersee from Munich is extremely easy. The quickest way – apart from taking the car – is by taking the train „Sbahn“ 8 that goes directly to the town Herrsching, where the promenade is located. From the train station, it’s only a five-minute walk to the lake.

Während man im Sommer den See durch Schiffahrten besichtigen kann, heißt es nicht, dass man nicht auch im Winter auf den See kannt. Zwar ist Schlittschuhlaufen meist nicht möglich, da der See nicht komplett gefriert oder auch zu wenig, doch wenn es zwei Wochewn konstant unter minus 10 Grad hat, ist er zumindest so weit gefroren, dass Wagemutige in Ufernähe darauf laufen.

While the lake is especially popular during the summer months, for example for its amazing ship trips, winter doesn’t necessarily mean, that you can’t go onto the lake. Even though the lake usually isn’t open for ice skating, since it won’t freeze completely or not enough, it does freeze partially when the temperatures stay below minus 10 degrees for more than two weeks. If so and you’re daring enough, you can go onto the ice and walk on the lake – just make sure to always stay near the shore!

Auf der gesamten Seepromenade befinden sich etliche Cafés und Restaurants. Aber auch ein Fischladen, der selbst Sonntags frische Forelle und Lachs anbietet und leckere Fischsemmeln verkauft, die perfekt für eine kleine Stärkung zwischendurch sind.

All along the seaside promenade, there are small cafés and restaurants. My personal favourite ist the small fish shop, where you can get fresh fish even on Sundays and delicious fish sandwiches too.

Im Sommer gibt es sicherlich noch mehr Angebot und es lässt sich in einem der Biergärten mit Seeblick entspannen. Dennoch bedeutet Winter nicht gleich, dass man nicht dennoch hinaus fahren kann, um eine schöne Aussicht zu genießen.

Even though there are more activities and things to do in the summer, since all the beer gardens and ship trips are closed during winter, it doesn’t exclude that you can have fun during winter there as well. One thing’s for certain: the view is as beautiful!
